Tieties Bay Weekend

2011.1.21
Tieties Bay Weekend
This was the first time we ever went to Tieties Bay. Skande after 30 years and it’s only a 2 hour drive.
Left home at 4.30pm – ish – filled up with diesel at Tienie petroleum.
Went via St Helena Bay and got slightly lost. Arrived at Tietiesbaai after 7pm.
No-one at the gate, just drove through.
Campsite no. H was the one we chose for the prevailing wind etc.
Ablution block quite far away. Cold showers only.
Had chicken liver pate, for supper
22.1. Saturday
Cereal and fruit for breaker.
Went to pay for two nights = R204. A bargain.
Walked to Paternoster – beginning of beach = 6.5km
> Cape Columbine lighthouse = 1.7km A very beautiful lighthouse.
> Die Winkel op Paternoster = 7.5
> (Beach walk 800m)
Express winkel for rolls and buttermilk bread. V. nice.
Paternoster padstal for west coast rollmops and kerry vis. Delish!
Ate lunch on the beach going back to Tieties.
Braai for supper – wors and pork chops, beetroot salad and bread.
Spanspek (bought at Winkelshoek)
Alan very sunburnt face – didn’t use sunscreen. I used blockout 100%!
23.1. Sunday
Woke up at 7am! Had a lousy night horrible sore throat. Took a strepsil.
Bacon and eggs for breakfast.
Walked south this time about 8km there and back.
Found a wild bee hive in the rock on the coast
Saw an oyster catcher fly to its nest and sit down. V cool!
Left about 3pm. Went home the tarred road via Vredenburg.
Stopped at Winkelshoek for a box of peaches
Picked Jonathan and Lottie up outside Piketberg.
Distances
Paternoster > Vredenburg = 22.8
Vredenburg > Veldrif = 22
Tieties Bay > Veldrif = 45.4
Veldrif > Piketberg = 64
Veldrif > Home =126.7
Tieties Bay > The Baths = 172.1 km
No signal at Tieties bay
Paternoster has lost its charm somewhat. Too much development. Fishermen’s cottages disappeared.
